November Manager of the month

This month, judges gave the Manager of the month award to Steve Todd, Home Manager at Trafalgar House in Bexhill, East Sussex. Well done!

Steve oversees two properties, one residential, the other supported living. He received nominations from his manager Sam Long and a team member at a nearby home. Each highlighted different ways in which he provides exemplary support.

Firstly, as manager on call Steve provided advice and support during an incident at neighbouring Maldon House. His nominator, Practice Lead Charlotte Danbury, said: “Steve gave me correct and good advice on the next steps. He calmed me and helped me focus to be able to continue doing my job. Steve is amazing.”

The homes in East Sussex sometimes join together for events and Steve is well known at Maldon House not least for his interactions with people supported and bringing smiles to people’s faces.

Charlotte continues: “We all look up to Steve and the way he works. Anyone would be so lucky to have Steve as a manager. He is easy to build a relationship with and always recognises you for the work you do, no matter how big or small. Keep doing you Steve, we all appreciate you!”

Lifestyle support

Secondly, Steve is currently supporting someone to reduce smoking as part of supporting healthy lifestyle choices. Reducing or giving up smoking will mean this person is able to have a required operation. The pair have joined a clinic and have already halved their smoking habits.

Finally, Steve gives up his Thursday evening to support people to attend a jam night. This popular event is looked forward to and has good attendance. In recognition of his dedication Sam Long says: “Steve is a true example of great leadership, always with the focus of people we support first.”

Steve said: ‘Receiving the manager of the month award and being selected from a field of great managers throughout the organisation is a humbling experience.

“Awards like this motivate me to strive to achieve better outcomes for everybody I work with, both people we support and the team I have the privilege of managing. Everything we achieve is a result of great communication, great commitment and a focus on the needs of vulnerable people. I am lucky in that I have a team who share those values. Thank you for this award.”
