Meet our supported living Manager in Croydon

Daniel, the dedicated Manager at our supported living home, who’s greatest joy is his profound passion for people we support.

What has been your experience in sector?

“In my seven-year journey in social care, I’ve experienced significant growth and development. Starting as a support worker, I’ve progressed through the ranks to become a deputy manager and currently hold the position of registered home manager with CQC.

“Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of supporting people with a diverse range of needs, including learning disabilities, autism spectrum conditions, mental health needs, and dementia. Each experience has enriched my understanding and honed my skills in providing compassionate and effective support.

“One aspect that sets Achieve together apart is their unwavering commitment to supporting employee development. Through their comprehensive training programs such as the Great Managers Academy, manager conferences, and Brilliant Basics, I’ve been equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to excel in my role. Achieve together’s investment in my growth has not only enhanced my professional capabilities but also empowered me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we support.

“I am grateful for the opportunities and support provided by Achieve together, and I look forward to continuing my journey of learning and making a positive impact in the social care sector.”

What do you enjoy most about your role?

“What brings me the greatest joy is my profound passion for people we support. Witnessing positive changes in their lives fills me with immense pride and fulfillment.

“Moreover, achieving success in our ratings is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire team. It signifies that we are delivering on our commitment to provide exceptional care and support.

“Knowing that we are making a tangible difference in the lives of those we support and being recognised for our efforts is incredibly rewarding. It fuels my passion and motivates me to continue striving for excellence in everything we do.”

What has been your greatest achievement with those you support?

“I’ve had the privilege of witnessing remarkable transformations in people I support, and one particularly inspiring example comes to mind.

“When I first met A, they faced challenges with continence and lacked enthusiasm for engaging in daily life skills. However, through dedicated support and encouragement, we’ve made significant strides together. Today, A no longer requires prompting for continence tasks and has become actively engaged in various activities.

“Now, when I arrive, A eagerly asks, “What are we doing today?” They enthusiastically participate in activities at the resource centre, enjoy singing along to their favourite music artists, and cherish one-on-one time at the pub. A has blossomed into a vibrant individual who delights in interacting with others and eagerly discusses current events and news.

“Furthermore, A’s development journey continues as they now take initiative in household tasks, such as bringing down their laundry basket and preparing to go to the resource centre independently.

“Witnessing A’s progress and newfound zest for life fills me with immense pride and reaffirms the transformative power of compassionate support and encouragement. Together, we celebrate A’s achievements and look forward to even more milestones in their journey towards independence and fulfilment.”

How do you work with family members and relatives?

“The engagement and support from the families of people supported at the home have been truly exceptional. Their enthusiasm and participation in our organised events have been nothing short of fantastic.

“In an effort to strengthen our bond with the families and keep them involved in their loved ones’ lives, we’ve recently implemented regular FaceTime calls. These calls provide an opportunity for families to connect with their loved ones virtually and stay updated on their well-being and activities. Additionally, we extend invitations to social events, ensuring that families feel welcome and included in the community we’ve created at the home.

“The positive response from families underscores the importance of collaboration and communication in providing the best possible care for people supported. Together, we create a supportive and nurturing environment where everyone feels valued and connected.”

Hopes for the future?

“My vision for the future is filled with aspirations to make a greater impact in the lives of the people we support and to advance in my career. I am determined to reach new heights and ultimately become a regional manager, with ambitions to further progress to the top echelons of leadership.

“To prepare for this journey, I am embarking on a Level 5 in Coaching, recognising the importance of honing my leadership and coaching skills to effectively guide and empower others. Through this program, I aim to cultivate a supportive and nurturing environment where people can thrive and reach their full potential.

“In my role, I am committed to implementing meaningful changes that promote independence and enhance the quality of life for those we support. My ultimate goal is to see a significant reduction in support levels as people gain confidence and autonomy in their daily lives. I aspire to create opportunities for the majority of the people we support to engage in voluntary or paid work, fostering a sense of purpose and fulfilment.

“With dedication, perseverance, and a passion for making a difference, I am confident that I can achieve these goals and continue to positively impact the lives of others in meaningful ways.”

What are your hobbies/interests outside of work?

“It sounds like you have a diverse range of interests that keep you engaged and entertained!

“As a Manchester United supporter, there’s nothing quite like the thrill of watching your team secure a victory, especially with standout players like Rashford leading the charge.

“Your culinary adventures with dishes like Jollof Rice and grilled chicken African style showcase your appreciation for delicious and flavourful cuisine. It’s evident that you have a knack for cooking up tasty meals that satisfy the senses.

“When it comes to unwinding and enjoying downtime, nothing beats the power of music. Anita Daker’s tunes must provide the perfect soundtrack to your relaxation moments.

“Your love for travel has taken you on exciting journeys across various African countries, and even to the United States, with a recent visit to New Jersey. Exploring new cultures and experiencing different landscapes must be incredibly enriching.”
