Nominated by her Deputy Manager for this award, Lynn is described as ‘such a supportive manager who brings out the best work in each of us’. Leading with empathy, she takes the time to hear ideas from her team as a whole and individually ensuring everyone’s opinions and ideas are valued.
Lynn also values every person she and the team at DCA Shrewsbury support, resulting in some amazing outcomes. One example of this is a man whose independence and confidence has increased significantly leading to decreased dependence on support.
Significant achievements
In 2019 he won an award for ‘Best individual achievement’ travelling to London to collect it with Lynn. This was an achievement in itself, and with Lynn by his side he felt safe and supported. Since then, he has become more independent in all areas of his life – attending GP appointments which he never would before and having medical treatment, going on holiday and managing his mental health better. Consistency is incredibly important to this person – he even keeps seven Christmas trees up all year in his flat. With consistency of support and encouragement from Lynn he is now allowing the team who support him to expand from a core of five to seven, another huge achievement.
Lynn said: “To be nominated by a member of the team is a fantastic feeling as you feel you just go about your everyday role. The people we support are all really special and want to strive to be the best they can be. That makes working with them so much pleasure. It can be the smallest detail to a whole new way of life, but to help to improve someone’s quality of life or play any part in it is amazing.
“I couldn’t do any of the things I do without the brilliant team that work alongside me to achieve all these great outcomes. Thank you to them.”
