Today we bring you the inspirational story of Jody and his baking excellence which led him to raise £128 for Macmillan Cancer Support after baking and selling cakes.
Jody has lived at one of our Kent residential homes since 2006 and has always been a keen baker. His mum volunteered for the Ellenor Centre in Kent, which offers end of life care for people facing terminal illness, including cancer. It is the only charity in the country who provide hospice to people of all ages. Unfortunately, Jody’s own mother was also diagnosed with cancer and sadly passed away a couple of years ago.
This led Jody to want to raise money to help other people who are potentially in the same position as his mum was. Although initially, people suggested Jody buy cakes or throw a party, Jody wanted to be more hands on and baked the cakes from scratch himself. With the support of his Key Worker, Jody baked a massive amount of delicious cakes ready to sell to friends and family.
On the day, Jody went round to many families and friends and sold his amazing creations. He spent the whole day visiting the homes of people he wanted to sell the cakes to and bartered the prices with them too. After a long day’s work, he managed to raise an astonishing £128.53 and donated it all to Macmillan Cancer Support.
A huge congratulations to Jody for all his amazing and worthwhile work- well done!
