The BILD International PBS Conference in Newcastle was a great opportunity to meet a range of people involved in positive behaviour support.
Our Director of Health & Wellbeing, Michael Fullerton and Unity Member Stephen joined Head of PBS and Restriction Minimisation Dan Morrison, PBS Team Manager Tracie Gudgeon, and Head of Forensic Mental Health Kevin Taylor.
With a theme of ‘Kindness, Connection and Coproduction’ across the two-day conference, delegates enjoyed a variety of talks from practitioners. Speakers included experts by experience, family members, leading PBS academics and BILD.
Michael says: “There was a lot of learning, networking and also validation of the approaches we have been adapting in Achieve together. These include our PASS+PORT™ Training – with a focus on Positive Behaviour Support, restriction minimisation and supporting people to flourish in their lives.
“We also felt our core values of Valuing Everyone, Having Fun, Being Brave and Making Things Happen, and the Wheel of Engagement as a person-centred framework, were very much in tune with the conference’s main messages.”
Stephen represented Unity self-advocacy group as an expert by experience. He said that he was reassured that the social care sector is working positively to ensure people are supported well, and supported kindly.
We are setting up a PBS Strategy Group within Achieve together, which will include Stephen and other members of Unity. It will also involve family members to aid co-production of PBS Strategies and include some of the learning from the conference.
