The Achieve together Nursing Team are celebrating this week after they were shortlisted in the Nursing in Social Care category of the Nursing Times Awards 31st event, which is set to return, hopefully in person, later this year in London.
Every year the awards bring together the nursing community to shine a light on the brightest talent in the profession and recognise those making nursing innovative, patient-focused, and inclusive.
Focusing on the national PMLD Core & Essential Service Standards, as a social care provider, our nurse led internal Health & Wellbeing Team have supported people with PMLD to have more control over their lives, with greater visibility and a voice through dedicated self/peer advocacy work.
Our Nurse Team were instrumental in the initiation and development of the PMLD Core & Essential Service Standards and using these PMLD Standards we have ensured through the leadership of the organisation, and the skill and vision of support teams that people with profound and multiple learning disabilities can achieve a greater voice and role in society, and through the use of assistive technology, a greater level of control over their lives.
Following a tough year during the Covid-19 pandemic, it has never been more important to recognise the incredible contributions of our colleagues and we are delighted to see our teams recognised by their peers in such a fantastic way.
“We are immensely proud as a Nursing Team in Achieve together to be shortlisted for the ‘Nursing in Social Care’ category of the Nursing Times Awards 2021. As nurses working directly in a social care provider organisation, we are delighted to see that this new category has been added to these prestigious awards”, explained Michael Fullerton, Director of Health and Wellbeing for Achieve together.
“The shortlisted entry reflects the fantastic work of our Nursing Team, and Social Care Support teams in delivering excellent support to adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities, in line with the PMLD National Core & Essential Service Standards, a set of standards which members of our Nursing Team supported to develop.
“Providing excellent person-centred support to people with profound and multiple learning disabilities requires skilled and confident support and involvement from a variety of stakeholders, crucially including families – the Achieve together Nursing Team coordinate that support to ensure people with profound and multiple learning disabilities enjoy healthy, happy and meaningful lives, in the heart of their local community. We very much look forward to the judging and awards evening to tell others about our great work.”
Highlighting innovation, perseverance and incredible work across 25 categories covering a wide range of nursing specialties from mental health to clinical research, the event will be hosted at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London on the 27th October 2021.
