Congratulations to both our festive card design winners for this year. Jonathan, who attends Educational Day Service in Bath, created a vibrant abstract wreath design. Ruth, who lives in supported living accommodation in Harrow, painted a reindeer in a snowy forest.
Members of Unity, our co-production group, judged the many entries received. Both pictures are now digital cards for people to send via email to spread some seasonal cheer. The two winners received framed pictures of their work as a thank you from Achieve together.
Inspired by the festive hues of a holly bush, Jonathan’s watercolour design began as a pencil sketch and was brought to life with vivid colours. His artistic skills and confidence have flourished over the past year at EDS Bath, where he has developed a love for expressing himself through art.
Jonathan’s success is a testament to his creativity and determination. When asked what he enjoys most about art, Jonathan shared: “I like colour. It looks better and a little more bright.”
Similarly, the snowy blue colours and intricate details of Ruth’s reindeer design captured the judges’ attention. Ruth, who dreams of pursuing art professionally, has been attending local art classes and recently showcased eight pieces at the Achieve together Art Exhibition.
Self-expression and emotional regulation
Art is important across all our homes and services, offering a person-centred and inclusive way to engage with people and to develop relationships. An invaluable outlet for creativity communication, and personal growth, all forms of art support self-expression, emotional regulation, social skills, motor skills, self-esteem, confidence and sensory integration. In turn, these help to promote physical and mental wellbeing and overall health.
The Service Manager at EDS Bath, Kay Skipp, expressed her pride in Jonathan’s achievement: “We are all so proud of Jonathan and his incredible artwork. Winning this competition is a testament to his creativity, determination, and progress over the past year. It’s wonderful to see his confidence grow and to know his design will be shared with so many people this Christmas.”
Similarly, Ruth’s Home Manager, Samual Hayford, said: “Ruth’s creativity and passion for art shine through in everything she does. This competition win is a fantastic recognition of her talent, and we’re all incredibly proud of her achievements. She’s an inspiration to everyone here.”
