About this home

The Marshes is a residential home for adults with profound learning disabilities and physical disabilities. The home uses a person-centred planning approach tailored towards individual needs and focuses on outcomes. People supported are encouraged to be as independent as possible and are supported to take part in meaningful activities that enrich their lives.

The Marshes team focus on providing a comfortable, warm and friendly atmosphere within the home to ensure that people living here feel safe and happy. People at The Marshes are supported by a dedicated team to lead full and interesting lives within their local community; these are centred on the person’s needs, wishes and aspirations. Family and friends are an integral part of people’s lives here, and the team operates an open-door policy to ensure that people, families and others feel welcome to come and share any feedback they might have.

What we offer

The Marshes is an attractive bungalow situated on the outskirts of Hailsham, a town in the heart of the picturesque Sussex Downs. There are six ground-floor bedrooms. The home is purpose-built and can accommodate wheelchair users and those who require other aids for mobility.

Communal areas include a lounge, kitchen and dining area.

The Marshes has its own garden to the rear and a shared communal patio area to the front. There’s also a sensory garden that the home shares with one of our neighbouring homes, Lynfords.

The home is within easy reach of local shops, pharmacies and a leisure centre, which has a Bowling Alley. People within the home use these local amenities on a daily basis, and the local tourist attractions at Brighton, Hastings, and Eastbourne, which are a short drive away.

Lifestyle

People at The Marshes are supported to lead active lives and take part in a wide range of activities. The local community centre is used on a weekly basis for various activities, including a club night and sensory sessions. People enjoy weekly meals out, trips to the pub, transport college, bowling and leisure centre activities.

Outside professionals visit the service and provide therapeutic support such as music sessions, light exercise sessions, and aromatherapy. There has also been visits from Pet Pals where people can interact with animals within the service.

The service is supported by opticians, chiropodists, district nurses and other health professional as required. The local community learning disability team support the service and attends reviews for each individual on an annual basis or as required. We focus on working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in order to ensure excellent outcomes for the people that live here.

The service supports individuals to go on any holidays they wish to, and the service recently went on holiday to West Wittering, where everyone stayed in a 5-bedroom holiday home that had lovely gardens with a decked area near a stream. Everyone enjoyed the warm weather, relaxing and listening to the radio in the garden. They went on trips to Marwell Zoo, where a tractor ride was enjoyed by all, and ate chips on Bognor Beach. In the evening, they had dinner out, and everyone went to see Jersey Boys at the local cinema.
