About this home

Cottage Walk is a residential home for adults with moderate to severe learning disabilities, mental health needs, complex needs, including behaviours that may challenge, restricted mobility and/ or Epilepsy. The home offers a person-centred planning approach tailored towards individual needs and focused on outcomes.

People are supported to be as independent as possible, engaging in meaningful activities both in the service and in the wider community. Individuals are supported to lead enriching lives, and the team supports them to identify and maintain both leisure activities and education and/or work placements. The team is available 24 hours a day, including a waking night team.

What we offer

Cottage Walk is a homely property located in the coastal area of Clacton-on-Sea. It has six bedrooms across two floors, with a shower room, bathroom and a Parker bathroom, which is located downstairs for easy access. There are communal areas for people to socialise in if they wish, including a large lounge/dining area and a kitchen. There is also a sensory room, which is ideal for in-house sensory sessions.

The garden is very spacious and is perfect for leisure activities and social events. There is a large hallway which is accessible to wheelchair users.

The home has its own vehicle, so any days out individuals want to go on are possible.

Lifestyle

At Cottage Walk, people living here are very caring towards each other and always help each other where they can. Cottage Walk is a busy but mostly quiet home. Currently, Cottage Walk is an all-female home, but people living here would welcome a male if they suited the current dynamic. 2 females living here are non-verbal. The home is set on a quiet street with only six neighbouring houses.

The females living here love a ‘girls’ night in’ and enjoy watching ‘chic flics’, singing, and partying together. The females living here love to dance and boogey together and make sure everybody is involved, no matter their additional challenges.

People living at Cottage Walk are supported to lead active lives and take part in various activities that increase both communication skills and confidence. Some examples of leisure activities that people have been supported in include going to the spa, sensory sessions, cookery lessons, majorettes, drama and cinema trips, to name a few. One individual recently won an award for achievement in activities and a talent competition, which was a great achievement for her.

There are many opportunities to engage in within the wider community as the home is close to the seafront, where there are various shops, restaurants, arcades and the pier.
